FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the most common questions about power and electricity in the households in Norway.

Distribution grid and power supplier - what’s the difference?

As an electric power customer you are actually making purchases from two companies, your local grid company and your power supplier.
The grid company owns all electric meters and the power grid in its license area; it distributes electricity to your house and is responsible for maintaining a reliable and effective distribution grid.
The power supplier sells you the electric power you use.
In the Hafslund-group you'll find both Hafslund Nett (grid company in a defined area) and Hafslund Strøm (power supplier operating all over the country).

Why do I have to read my meter?

The Norwegian Water and Energy Directorate (NVE) determined in its rules and regulations that customers must read their meters and forward the readings to their power and grid companies. The intentions behind this regulation are that customers will have a more correct settlement, become more aware of their own consumption pattern, and over time become more aware of power conservation issues. More information is available from www.nve.no.
